Remembering the Kennedy's  / Lorre (Larson) Floyd (family friends )
Bruce and Karleen have been a part of the Larson family for as long as I can remember.  During my visits to Seattle, I watched as their beautiful children, Kevin and Karin grew from youngsters into accomplished adults.

Bruce and Karleen always brought joy with them to any event.  I am forever indebited to them for watching over my grandparents and extending their friendship and grace always.  When you take two dynamic individuals such as Karleen and Bruce and team them up, they become an amazing unit.  It has been a privledge to know them both.

I was so saddened to hear of the tragic accident that claimed Bruce's life, yet the next day, when I went out to get the mail, I saw a beautiful full arch rainbow and in the quiet of this sight there was the sound of a single engine plane.  When it came into view, it was one of those moments where I felt a divine peace and assurance that Bruce was in God's loving arms.

Our family will forever miss Bruce and be grateful for his presence in our lives.  But the love and grace that he and Karleen began many years ago will carry though forever.

God bless your family~
Lorre (Larson) Marks Floyd

Kevin, Kelley, Hallie and Braden,
I was so saddened to hear of the crash that took Bruce's life. Having gone through the loss of my parents so suddenly, I understand the pain and sadness you feel. This scripture was very comforting to me during those days (and even still), and I hope you will find peace and comfort knowing that Jesus has His arms around you and is with you. "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord....plans to prosper you and not to harm, to give you a future and a hope". Jer 29:11
We are praying for you all, Love and Blessings- Mark, Susan, Tyler and Kyra Goodspeed Close

I also had the privilege of meeting Mr. Kennedy outside of church in Menlo Park.  I remember him and Mrs. Kennedy as being so loving and genuine in that brief meeting.  I have been blessed by hearing wonderful stories of his heart for missions and helping others and realize how much of that now is being lived out in Karin.

I am greatly saddened by your loss.  Please know that we are grieving with you and are praying for you, Karin, and your family during this time and that we love you very much.

Kevin,

Tracy called me about the news. I would like to say we Love you and are thinking about you. I lost my father in 1986 at sea fishing in Alaska. I know in my heart he cryed out to God. Thank God that your father and his legacy. It changed my life when my father went, but I am so much more focused on what the Lord wants for my life. Kevin, be that Father, Son and live that legacy and continue on that life for your father. The Lord is talking to you and your heart. He will never leave you. You have such an opportunity to follow not only your fathers legacy, but start your own for your family.

Love,

Grace and Tracy Close

Karin, Ken, and family,

Embrace the tears of loss and the laughter of joyful remembrance.  We weep with you in grief and rejoice with you in the knowledge that Bruce has passed from life to greater life.  We pray that the Comforter will comfort you, and that you will be strengthened by the One who intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words.

Bruce, our friend and hero  / Lauren And Anne Rice (friend)
We were so saddened to learn today of Bruce Kennedy's death. Both he and Karleen were our friends for 37 years. Bruce was a month younger than me but I always considered him to be a bit older and wiser. Through scouts, years on the church session together, Sunday school classes, "talk time" with the refugees, and other social events I got to know him well. We retired at the same time and age, but he took up flying and bought his first plane, the plane he crashed, several years before I returned to flying. He took me flying shortly after he got his private license which inspired me to think seriously about getting back into flying.

All of us who knew Bruce greatly admired him for his creative thinking, his business skills and leadership abilities, his integrity, but most of all as a humble servant of God. I must admit having put Bruce up on a pedestal because of all he accomplished and the manner in which he did it. One Sunday at the social hour between church services I asked Bruce how he could be so successful in business and have accomplished so much as a leader. I can't remember what he said immediately, but the next week he approached me and said he'd been thinking and praying about the important question I'd asked. He said it couldn't just be him it had to be God working through him.

A story I like to tell about Bruce and Karleen is about how concerned and caring they were for the refugees from countries like Cambodia during the 1980's. They started "Talk Time" at John Knox Church to help them learn English and meet some Americans, as well as to become comfortable at church. They led a group of volunteers who collected used items of household items and clothes to get them started. They also helped them get though all the other social and educational issues. Karleen used to go out to SeaTac Airport to help the families who were transferring flights, or meeting sponsors. One day the Yap family arrived with three young boys. There had been a "mess up" and they had no sponsor. Well, the Kennedy's immediately volunteered to take them in and set the family up at their house. After only a few days the Kennedy's had to leave for an important trip. Now can you imagine leaving a family of five that you didn't really know and couldn't speak a word of English in your home for a week. When the Kennedy's returned the house was immaculately cleaned, with the trees pruned, grass mowed and beds weeded! That started a wonderful relationship of mutual support and friendship which continues today. Early on Bruce and Karleen approached me about Cory, the oldest son, joining scouts. His first overnight outing was building igloos. He was such a hard worker. Cory became a strong leader in the troop, and earned the rank of Eagle Scout, along with his younger brothers.

Building on his goals at the time of retirement, Bruce invested his considerable skills, his time, and money in mission work. It was natural that he should take a leadership role in Mission Aviation Fellowship. He began to see that the available aircraft, primarily from Cessna, just weren't up to the tasks that the missionaries needed in remote third world areas. So over the past six years Bruce has worked tirelessly, often 60 hour weeks, to achieve his goal of building and certifying a rugged single engine plane which could carry huge loads and use short rough landing fields. In addition to putting together a team, and construction site, one of his huge accomplishments was obtaining the millions of dollars of funding required through donations and investments to keep Quest Aircraft going. Certification of the Kodiak aircraft from the FAA is imminent. A big plus is that this plane uses kerosene which is a more readily available fuel in remote areas.

Do you remember the small pieces of paper with a verse of scripture printed on them that was inserted with the meals on Alaska Airline Flights? Even though it caused a controversy that small thing speaks hugely of who Bruce was and of his commitment to his Savior Jesus Christ. Like thousands across the world we will miss his greatly. Our thoughts and prayers at this time are with the wonderful family Bruce left behind, especially Karleen, and his children Karin and Kevin.

Mr. Bruce Kennedy visited my place of business just a few days before his accident.  He was a great blessing to us in those few minutes and was surrounded by his family, of which he was obviously very fond and proud.  The quality of the bond of the family is a testament to the example he lived.  We were among the hundreds that have been permanently changed because of his example and committment to God.  May the Lord bless you all during this time of difficulty. Bruce was a mentor in more ways than one.  / Loran Lichty (Friend of family )
Bruce was the father of my high school friend Kevin.  I spent many days and evenings through high school hanging out at the Kennedy home and getting to know the family.  Bruce was a mentor to me and encouraged me to pursue a career with Alaska Airlines.  He did great things in his time as the leader of Alaska but I think he did greater things outside of his corporate leadership role.  Bruce & his family showed me how to love people from other countries and do everything possible to help them.  Karleen corrected my english every chance she had....and I'm grateful for that.  Bruce was a great father to his kids and many of us as well.  He modeled for me what was important in life by leaving what most would percieve as the "top of his career" and continued serving others in the name of Jesus Christ.  We are sad that he's not with us anymore yet envious because he's with Jesus right now.  I am a better man today because I knew Bruce Kennedy. We were so shocked to hear of Bruce's passing.  We are thinking and praying for your family.

I (Sheina) only met Bruce on one occasion -- when he visited Karin in my home, and graciously fixed my toilet during his visit!  I was humbled by his kind and generous gift.  Surely it is a rare, beautiful person who would do this.  I have enjoyed reading about his life on this website and in articles online.  He passionately led a full life -- professionally, personally and spiritually -- and he has made a difference in this world.

Mr. Kennedy was a great person,  / Brianna McCoy (acquaints)

Brianna McCoy, I am a 10th grade student at Aviation High School in Seattle Washington.

I had the pleasure to met Mr. Kennedy at the Pathfinders gala in 2006. I even had to write a essay on his accomplishments for the Pathfinders event.

He was such a nice person. He is going to be missed very much. He did so many wonderful things for the community.

If I or Aviation High School can help out with anything please let me know.

Sincerely,

Brianna McCoy
